Q. What is Carrier Pre Selection (CPS)?
Carrier Pre-Select (CPS) is a facility that allows you to select an alternative operator to route your voice calls, other than BT. You can choose the type of calls you wish to be carried with each provider, depending on their rates - eg national calls or calls to mobiles.
No additional equipment or prefix codes of any kind are needed to use CPS, and it is a free of charge service. It costs nothing to transfer, and you'll actually save money by using CPS!
Q. How does CPS work?
When you sign up to an alternative supplier and use CPS, your calls will be re-routed through their network. So, instead of your calls going along the BT network (at a higher price), they will take a different route, one that is less expensive but just as reliable.
Q. Are there any call types that CPS does not apply to?
CPS will not apply to calls using short codes (eg 999), operator-specific short codes or un-metered interconnect internet access. Therefore, for the time being, CPS will not automatically route directory enquiry calls.
Q. Will I still be able to use BT's 141 and 1471 service?
Yes. CPS will not affect the 141/1471 service. 1571 CPS will enhance this service, as when you dial '3' to return a call, this call is routed via your chosen carrier.
Q. If I choose CPS what disruptions to my business should I expect?
None. You keep your existing telephone number and continue to make telephone calls as usual. In brief, the entire CPS transition is managed for you so that the day to day operation of your organisation is not disrupted at all.
Q. How will billing work?
GCC Networks offer the option of wholesale line rental (WLR) which means you can have one single bill that includes both call charges and line rental. If you prefer not to choose this option however, you will receive two separate bills, one from us with your cheaper call charges, and one from your line rental provider.
