Frequently Asked Questions

Data Products

Q. What are Data Products?
Data products refers to services including, security solutions, back-up/storage solutions, simple/complex broadband connections, internet/fax desktop solutions, leased lines, web hosting, connectivity, and facilities to build virtual private networks (VPN) with fill MPLS facilities (Please see below).

Q. What is Multi Protocol label switching (MPLS)?
MPLS is a technology for speeding up network traffic flow and making it easier to manage. MPLS involves setting up a specific path across a network for a given sequence of data packets. This path will then be identified by a label put in each packet. In addition to moving traffic faster overall, an MPLS makes it easier to manage a network for quality of service. As a result of these benefits, the technique is being readily adopted as networks begin to carry larger amounts and different mixtures of traffic types.

Q. What are managed Virtual Private Networks (VPN)?
A VPN allows two or more private networks to connect securely over the internet. In business terms, you would usually look to install VPN to allow, for example, managers and sales representatives to safely connect to the office network/server and transfer files, send/receive email or print documents etc. A VPN allows employees flexibility and freedom to work from home, removing the restrictions of working to typical office hours. In summary, by using VPN, commuting time to the office is eliminated, and there is more time available to be spent with your customers and to get results.

Q. What are the benefits of MPLS/VPN?

New Technology: An MPLS VPN takes your communications infrastructure to the next level, and as a result increases employee productivity with enhanced applications.

Highly Secure: It creates secure Intranets and Extranets to communicate better both internally and externally.

Highly reliable: MPLS/VPNs are highly reliable due to the fully interlocked system (full mesh). The information is carried over, therefore if one link fails, traffic is automatically rerouted to find another path.

Cost effective: There is no need for costly, fixed dedicated circuits between VPN sites.

Efficient: The service constantly reroutes your packets to find the quickest path, as there is no standard link.

Manageable: It is able to provide quality of service and prioritisation, meaning you will know that the important data is reaching its destination first. This makes it easy to predict and manage application performance over your links.

Maximise bandwidth efficiency: Very high bandwidth is available cost-effectively, using MPLS VPNs. Your business can have the bandwidth you need and the option to make increases to your bandwidth easily, making it a worthwhile network for the future, optimising your investment.

Q. What do we mean by point to point data access services?
Point to point is a term used to describe a data channel that connects two and only two terminals. Point to point data allows communication between two different sites, sites which may be close-by or geographically dispersed. Either way, we are able to provide secure options for dedicated private data communications between such physically separate sites.

Q. What are the Internet Fax Desktop Solutions?
Email to fax (outbound) and fax to email (inbound) solutions over a secure global IP network. This allows companies such as yourself to deliver vital information to your customers, suppliers and employees, by sending faxes directly from the desktop into an existing email program.

Q. What is Broadband?
Broadband is a common term for a high bandwidth internet connection, that can send or download information many times faster than with a standard telephone and modem.

Q. What are the benefits of Broadband?

Cost effective: There is a fixed rate, meaning there are no usage charges, allowing you to budget effectively.

No need for multiple lines: The same line can be used simultaneously for internet and voice calls.

Faster download speed: Faster download speeds of up to 2 megabits per second, meaning your business can download data 40 times faster than with a dial-up connection, allowing you to also send large attachments faster.

Multiple Users: Allows up to 12 email boxes, creating 12 identities which can be managed within discrete mailboxes.

Flexible: Your employees can keep on top of their email wherever they are, as each email box can be read from a web browser anywhere with an internet connection.

Q. What do we mean by web hosting?
Your business will rent a piece of server space that you will share with several other Websites, known as a 'shared hosting plan'. As your Website grows due to the increased number of users and additional Web pages required, you will need to upgrade to a bigger shared plan. Eventually your businesses website will require a dedicated server, which is committed entirely to your site. Web hosting gives your business a reliable, flexible and secure service, massively eliminating the risk of downtime, and therefore any loss of revenue as a direct result.

Q. What is Storage Resource Management (SRM)?
SRM provides improved services to customers, including management of systems, application and storage devices and the efficient back up and recovery of data. Primarily, SRM monitors and measures the status of all resources. It provides active management alternatives to prevent any interruption of service, and ensures that adequate plans are in place for future growth.
